New techniques based on classic forms
Against the backdrop of backstage banter, this video is about dressing in authentic Elizabethan costume for the role of Gertrude in Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Pop Up Globe Theatre, Auckland NZ in 2019.
Designs by Costumer Hannah Lobelson. With dresser extraordinaire Imogen Rhodes. Stills feature Adrian Hooke as Hamlet and Max Loban as Claudius. With musicians Louie McGlashan and Oscar West. Costumes at the Pop Up Globe are largely authentic, a minor concession in this case being hook and eye attachment for the bodice on one side. The wig is real hair. Even at arms length distance in broad daylight, the lace attaching the hair to the face wasn’t noticeable, giving the impression that the hair was my own.
